Abstract

17 Patients with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinomas were examined with sonography. There was no patient with jaundice or liver cirrhosis. 11 patients (65%) showed positive skin or stool test for Clonorchis Sinensis. 13 patients were peripheral cholangiocarcinomas and four patients were main duct cholangiocarcinomas. Diameter of the tumor varied from 3 to 14cm. Mean diameter of the tumor was 9.2cm in peripheral type and 3.9cdm in main duct type. Echogenecity of the tumor was variable in peripheral type and was hyperechoic in main duct type. Tumor margin was irregular in 13 patients. Focal intrahepatic ductal dilatation was seen in one patient with peripheral type and all patients with main duct type. Sonography could detect 2 cases out of 5 cases of extrahepatic metastasis proven by surgery. Compared with computed tomography(CT), sonography showed same results in the detection of the tumor and the evaluation of size and location of the tumor. However, CT is better than sonography in the evaluation of dilatation of peripheral intrahepatic duct and extrahepatic metastasis.
